Sofregaz was founded by Gaz de France in 1959 and today is a leading independent engineering company dedicated to providing energy solutions. The company’s focus extends well beyond traditional energy sources to encompass gas treatment installations and pipelines, natural gas from compression stations, and LNG for import and export terminals, as well as emerging solutions. The latter includes carbon capture, ammonia, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide utilization.
Transforming Ambition into Reality
Through its expertise across emerging and conventional energies, Sofregaz aims to engineer the ambitions of its clients into reality. The company provides bespoke solutions, delivering excellence at every stage of a project to build energy systems that support long-term development and drive progress.
A robust commitment to its clients is at the heart of Sofregaz’s ethic. The company prioritizes their objectives and needs and fosters collaboration, transparent communication, and trust to deliver outcomes that surpass expectations and add tangible value.
Sofregaz is majority-owned by GET Group (led by indirect owner Christian Kmeir), which specializes in infrastructure and energy and has a long-term strategic vision and international operations.

Pioneering Solutions
Sofregaz is supporting the transition to clean energy and empowering its clients to meet their economic and environmental goals. Its new energy solutions include unbiased, end-to-end options for CO₂ management, with tailored approaches that cover the entire CO₂ value chain. For example, Sofregaz can design and implement CO₂ capture systems from power generation, industrial processes, or flue gases. The company is also developing innovative liquefaction technologies to compress CO₂ (in a liquid state) for storage or transport.
Ammonia is another area in which Sofregaz specializes, including the design of ammonia storage facilities and import terminals, tailored ammonia storage solutions, and efficient ammonia handling. The company supports the development of blue ammonia infrastructure, to reduce emissions by ensuring compatibility with carbon capture technology.
Energy Infrastructure Projects
From early advisory to long-term optimization, Sofregaz offers a comprehensive range of services that cover the complete lifecycle of an energy infrastructure project. The company’s activities cover four core areas.
The first, advisory and consultancy, involves the provision of strategic studies, such as those related to feasibility, conceptual design, and permitting, while the second, engineering services, encompasses delivering detailed designs, FEED, and owner’s engineering.
The third area is managing or supporting engineering, procurement, and construction activities via flexible contracting models adapted to the complexity and size of a project. Sofregaz also offers technical assistance and due diligence services to support operational plants with revamping, optimization, expert audits, and safety upgrades.
